#10 Experience Of A Tourism Consultant!

Profession: Tourism Consultant

Experience: 20 years

Location: Germany, Düsseldorf

I started my career in tourism as a tour guide in Kenya, Spain, Croatia, and Tunisia. I then worked as product manager for a German tour operator.

As of 1992, I led the German office of Destination Canada, the National Tourism Office of Canada as Managing Director for Germany and Switzerland.

In 2011, I set up my Agency KHL Tourism & Lifestyle Consulting to represent international destinations and luxury hotels.

The Hard part I feel about this profession as per my experience till now is :

Travel can be tiring. Sometimes it is hard to consider the different interests of many various players. Clients can also be demanding and do not want to spend a lot of money for services you render.

Things one might find interesting or feel “happy” about this profession are :

Lots of interesting travel, nice places, and wonderful hotels!

Biggest Con which I feel about this profession is :

I am my own time master but have to work a lot.

What my personal experience says about this profession :

All in all, it is wonderful. Never boring, always challenging since the world of tourism is changing rapidly.

I love to work with people from different countries and cultures.

My best travel destinations :

That`s a tough one! I have traveled to over 50 countries so far. Italy, Spain, and Canada are definitely among my favorites.

Any adventurous incident/experience which you come across in your profession.

Oh yes, many! I was working in Kenya when a coup d`etat happened and I had a group of 15 German tourists with me. That tour turned into a little nightmare but I survived.🙂.

Working as a tour guide is great and a good school for life. You have to deal with all kinds of people and have challenges almost every day.

What inspired you to start your own blog  www.khllifestyle.com  ?

I thought to share my travel experiences with interested people from all over the world. I like to write and take photos so this was almost a natural decision.

Also, I am very interested in subjects like fitness and nutrition so I am trying to combine this with travel as part of my blog.

I really feel great about this interview since it provides an excellent opportunity for me to share my thoughts.

Thank you so much!

  1. Superb blog! Do you have any recommendations for aspiring writers?
I’m planning to start my own site soon but I’m a little
lost on everything. Would you recommend starting with a free platform
like WordPress or go for a paid option? There are
so many choices out there that I’m completely overwhelmed ..
    Any ideas? Many thanks!
